Welcome to WSCAI!

WSCAI is the Washington State chapter of Community Associations Institute (CAI). CAI is the only national organization dedicated to fostering vibrant, responsive, competent community associations. Our mission is to assist community associations in promoting harmony, community, and responsible leadership. We believe that providing board members, managers, and homeowners the knowledge to better run their associations, they can turn “owners” into “neighbors,” increasing harmony, and leading to more prosperous, safer communities.

What We Do

Education

WSCAI provides members with educational resources by offering seminars, workshops, conferences and educational programs, most leading to professional designations for community managers and other industry professionals.

Advocacy

WSCAI’s Legislative Action Committee (LAC) works on legislative and regulatory matters, advocating in Olympia WA, on behalf of common-interest communities and industry professionals.

Involvement

WSCAI encourages chapter involvement through committees made up of volunteer members working together to address various areas within WSCAI, giving these members an opportunity to help shape our chapter.

Standards, Best Practices, and Public Policy Following Surfside Condo Collapse

The past two weeks have been devastating after witnessing the partial collapse of the Champlain Tower South condominium in Surfside, Fla., learning of the lives that perished, and seeing the tragedy’s impact on survivors and those in the immediate community. An investigation into the cause of the condo collapse is ongoing; standards of practice and legal requirements related to ensuring maintenance and structural integrity of condominiums understandably are coming under scrutiny.

If you’re my age or beyond, you will recognize “Imagine, if you will…” from The Twilight Zone. If not, feel free to roll your eyes but bear with me. My modified version is “Consider, if you will…” what we have all endured over the past year and a half.

Replace Your Plumbing At 50 Years? 60 Years? Not So Fast…

You may have been noticing an increase in the frequency of plumbing system replacement, at very high costs. Now that a significant portion of the housing stock we serve within Washington Community Associations has reached or is near the 50-year mark of life, expect that trend to continue. But what do you plan for in terms of timing, and cost? Why isn’t total replacement typically in your reserve study?

Gil PriceGil Price
