It was another impressive showing this year for the 13th Annual WSCAI Golf Tournament and Awards Dinner on July 24, 2013. The Wild West theme was embraced not only by our spectacular hole sponsors but by many of the 144 golfers who were dressed in their best duds at the Newcastle Golf Club.

Tournament Recap

The event sold out in record time and cowboys across the west have been heard telling tales of the best tournament and dinner yet. The day started out with a big, western welcome from the hard working WSCAI Social Committee and WSCAI staff members who put countless hours into creating a stellar occasion.

After hitting the driving range and the putting contest, golfers were herded onto the course where they met our business ‘pardners’ for blackjack, poker, ropin’ and shootin’—and some folks even managed to play a little golf.

The wagon train, dusty and tired, then headed back to the Newcastle homestead for chowtime. Buffalo brisket, BBQ chicken and many other tasty vittles really hit the spot after a hard day on the China Creek ranch.

Awards Ceremony & Banquet Recap

Range roamer and emcee Tom Mersiko kicked off the awards ceremony by announcing our winning (and losing) foursomes. Sharp shooters Michael Howe, Russell McLeod, Joe Sievers and Dan Zimberoff, took home 1st place with an impressive score of 55—16 under par.

This year’s winner of the Blue Ribbon Raffle Grand Prize was Scott Ograin of SIR Construction. Scott generously put the $500 El Gaucho gift certificate up on the auction block and donated the proceeds to our partner charity Mercy Housing.

Mercy Housing is an organization committed to developing safe, affordable and program-enriched housing communities for families, seniors and people with special needs. The WSCAI Community Outreach Committee coordinated a back-to-school supply drive and our bighearted members donated over 75 backpacks and a great volume of school supplies in support of Mercy Housing’s Start-and-Succeed campaign.
