About WSCAI’s Community Outreach Committee Projects

The purpose of WSCAI’s Community Outreach Projects is to foster members to use their skills and knowledge to support charities or other philanthropic endeavors which may also benefit the Community Association industry or communities where we live and work. Projects involved in: Adopt-A-Road, Ronald McDonald House, Toys for Tots, One Warm Coat (coat drive), Earth Day project at a member community association, and back pack drive for Mercy Housing.

Community Outreach Projects

WSCAI Earth Day Project

Each year our Community Outreach Committee selects and hosts a large project for a WSCAI member community to receive a complimentary community cleanup at their property.

Each year we look for projects that reduce energy consumption, reduce carbon and other harmful emissions and pollutants, conserve natural resources (like water and soil), reduce/recycle/reuse/and compost waste, and/or protect nature and wildlife.

In past years, WSCAI members have volunteered at the selected community by assisting with yard and general springtime cleanup, such as clearing away old plants, weeds and debris and removing existing ground cover. They have also planted flowers, trees and shrubs to help beautify common areas.

These projects have been a wonderful tradition in the WSCAI community and while each project is variant in its need, the help and assistance our team has been able to give back has been the life blood in what keeps this type of giving going.

Ronald McDonald House (RMHC)

www.rmhcseattle.org

Ronald McDonald House provides a home-away-from-home for families with seriously ill and injured children. We believe that every child deserves a safe and supportive place to grow, and the Community Outreach Committee has partnered with RMHC these last (7) years to purchase, cook, and serve to all (3) houses on their campus in Seattle, WA.

While the need is still there, the way in which we work with RMHC has changed due to COVID-19, and this year we are working to fundraise and put together boxed lunches for the family to be delivered.

Supporting RMHC During COVID19

Since last March RMHC has relied on the sponsorship of boxed meals in lieu of meals prepared at the House – especially on Saturdays and SundaysHere are some resources on how to help RMHC during this time:

Mercy Housing Backpack & School Supplies Drive

www.mercyhousing.org

Every year our WSCAI Community Outreach Committee participates in a drive to donate backpacks & school supplies to the families of Mercy Housing. All children deserve the opportunity to succeed in school. Unfortunately, many families living at Mercy Housing don’t have the resources to meet these needs.

As back-to-school time nears, parents will be challenged, unable to stretch their budget for school supplies. With your help, we can make sure the beginning of the school year is brighter for these children.

YWCA Pathways for Women is a 45-day emergency shelter for single adult women and mothers with children. They strive to give all clients the opportunity to find decent, affordable, and safe housing for themselves and their children.

Toys For Tots

toysfortots.org

A well-loved event, the WSCAI Community Outreach Committee, in cooperation with the local U.S. Marine Corps and WSCAI, is a partner on the Toys for Tots Campaign. The goal of the program is to receive donations of new, unwrapped toys to distribute to needy children in Washington State.

The Toys for Tots program allows for all children to have hope and experience the joy of the Holidays, while motivating them to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens, and community leaders.

It is a great feeling to see the number of families that come through the program with different reactions ranging from tears to smiles as they find that “perfect” toy for their child.
